On land, the pads of a prickly pear cactus look like ceiling fan blades. Like camels, they store water. When the water is gone, all that’s left is a dried, vein-like structure that resembles a coral fan you might see underwater in the Aegean Sea.

This “dead cactus ceiling fan” becomes a conduit of between land and sea. At sea, you can feel the warmth of the land. On land, you can feel the salty wind coming from the sea.
